Holographic Optics, Metrology, theory, and Technology have disseminated smoothly into the optics community as a whole and is widely used in specialty applications to solve difficult problems. Holography provided a new paradigm and new insights for the optical sciences.  Digital holography flourishes in most of these areas. Holographic memories and computing at the speed of light has been touted for years, but have so-far failed to establish themselves. Military applications research in the use of HOEs and holograms to aid virtual and augmented reality and heads up displays are alive and well.
